Alpacas are pretty much ALWAYS amenable to hay and grain. So if you see one of your alpacas standing off by itself, NOT coming in to eat when food is available, that's very likely a SICK alpaca that should be examined by a veterinarian quickly.

Also, a rare exception is when you really KNOW your animals because you've been observing their behavior regularly. But better safe than sorry.
