When you start visiting alpaca farms and shows, you'll find that people experienced in raising livestock often say alpacas are among the easiest and most worry-free animals to care for.

Alpacas tend to stay very healthy, and have few problems with pregnancy and birthing. (You'll also probably meet many alpaca breeders who are also veterinarians - vets know the stability of alpacas more so than perhaps any other group).

Still, Alpacas almost always require regular vaccinations and wormings.

As with all livestock, the vaccination schedules and worming treatments depend on where you live. Each part of the country has its own unique parasite problems and prevalence of disease.

In areas where the soil may be Selenium deficient, you may also need to feed supplements to keep your alpacas healthy.

Many breeders choose to give the shots themselves however. I know a breeder who is only 5' 4" and 110 pounds who does this, ... and it's worked out just fine for her.
